Access to health care is a problem in Turkana, in addition to the access to the facility, the predicament of getting an attendant at the facility has been the cry of the people of Nakwaperit.
Ministry of Health have worked to post a nurse at Loreng’alup Clinic. While the facility is run down, a partnership between TBI and MoH has seen an agreement that TBI will help renovate the clinic. While the clinic is a little far from the residents of Nakwaperit and Nakechichok, TBI, together with the community leaders have started a process to identify a suitable location to put up a structure that would serve as a clinic and work with the MoH nurse to enable her attend to the people of Nakwaperit and Nakechichok for 3 days of the week while ettending to the residents of Lorengalup and its environs during the rest of the week.
This is good news for the residents as it will especially help expectant mothers have access to pre-natal care and ensure that delivery of their babies is overseen by a qualified nurse, thus reducing the risks to the mother and child.
