Beloved singer/songwriter Paul Simon takes the stage for a special event in New York City to support Richard Leakey’s vision for the Turkana Basin Institute.
When: May 2, 2012 at 6:30 p.m.
Where: Highline Stages, 440 West 15th St., New York City
Simon will perform a selection of music from his legendary career to a limited engagement of 300 guests at Highline Stages in Manhattan. In addition to Simon’s performance, guests will enjoy cocktails, dinner and live auction featuring the following items:
- A luxury safari in Kenya
- A deluxe Antarctic voyage
- Original artwork from a renowned Kenyan artist.
Proceeds from the evening will be matched dollar-for-dollar by Jim and Marilyn Simons and the Simons Foundation through a $5 million challenge grant, and used to complete construction of the Turkana Basin Institute research campuses at Lake Turkana, Kenya.
Paul’s interest in our work began in 2008 when he visited TBI with his wife and children. Realizing the scientific potential of our project, Paul offered to help with fundraising by performing at an event in Vancouver which ultimately raised $1M and drew down a $1M match from the Simons’ Challenge grant, thus contributing $2M towards Phase 2 of TBI development.
