On Sunday after breakfast, the Field School students climbed into the lorry for a 20 minute ride. Their destination: The Nakwaperit Primary School where they had been invited to play a fun and friendly football match against the local students.
After hearing about the defeat of the previous field school in a match during the Fall semester, the current TBI students were determined to put on a good show and spent may pre-dinner conversations discussing tactics on the lead-up to the big day.
Once at the school, the students did a quick recap of the positions for the match and began their warm-up. Two young Turkana students joined our team too.
Both sides then lined up for some introductions and a group photo; after which, the match began.
It was fast…
It was furious…
GOAL! Within the first ten minutes Abdi scored one for the team.
This gave the students a boost of confidence, but for the rest of the game they were just not able to keep up with the speed of the local team who then scored a total of 6 goals over the remaining time.
The TBI students didn’t for a minute give up the challenge though, as many potential goals were prevented by the defence or saved by our amazing goalie, Robyn; and the team did make good progress in the offensive several times with shots flying just shy of the goalposts!
It was a fantastic match! And by no means was it a defeat to the TBI students as they had scored the first goal in field school history! Go Team!
After the match, both teams got together to share a snack of biscuits and orange squash, and much laughter. It was a great ending to a great morning!
Thanks to Kate Sherwood for the spectacular photos!
Stay tuned for more field school adventures!
