TBI has been honored to host Dr. Deborah Lindell of Case Western Reserve University for the last 8 months during her Fulbright Fellowship in Turkana. Dr. Lindell has been working on developing a Nursing BSN program at the Turkana University College (TUC), as well as teaching TUC students, conducting research into nursing in Turkana county and organizing continuing education for practicing nurses.
As the fellowship comes to an end, Dr. Lindell has organized an initiative to recognize the essential contributions of the nurses of Turkana County. “Nurses: A Voice to Lead– Celebrating All Nurses of Turkana County”, aligns with the theme for the annual International Nurses Day, May 12, the anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale.
The recognition initiative is a collaboration of Turkana University College, the Turkana County Government, Turkana Basin Institute, The Fulbright Program, and Case Western Reserve University Institute for the Science of Origins.
As part of the initiative, Turkana University College will host a half-day nursing continuing education conference, “Topics in Nursing Leadership”, on April 27. The presenters, local nursing experts, will speak on: Issues in Nursing Leadership, Continuous Improvement, Legal and Ethical Issues, and Person-Centered Care.
For more information about the conference and/or to register, please contact Deborah Lindell, +254 111 492977 (SMS or WhatsApp) or dlindell@tuc.ac.ke
